The Department of Finance, Insurance and Law Advisory Board provides an important link between management education within the finance and insurance curricula and practice within the business community. The professionals are a useful sounding board for present and proposed programs and activities of the department. The Advisory Board meets on Illinois State's campus twice a year to provide advice to the Chairperson on the mission, program, and direction of the Department of Finance, Insurance and Law.
Since 2007, the Advisory Board has met with and mentored finance and insurance majors, shared their ideas on the direction of hiring trends, offered career coaching advice to students, talked with students about their internship and job-hunting experiences, conducted mock interviews for assurance of learning purposes, listened to and provided feedback on faculty research presentations, observed classroom instruction, and attended workshops and demonstrations, among other things. The Advisory Board regularly receives college and department updates including assurance of learning results.
The Advisory Board consists of the Chairperson of the Department of Finance, Insurance and Law and organizational leaders who have a sincere interest in Illinois State University, are eager to be involved in helping the College of Business, and are devoted to improvement of higher education for business administration and management. Advisory Board members are committed to helping the department in fund-raising activities by providing corporate and personal contributions.
