Enterprise and Consumer Skype Are Different Products

COB Colleagues,

We have some important changes to Skype that we wanted to make you all aware of.  Recent changes Microsoft made to the consumer version of Skype have resulted in Skype repeatedly asking for admin credentials when the application starts in a secure “best practices” environment similar to our own.  This has resulted in no small level of frustration for those of you that use Skype to work with colleagues and/or students, so we have decided to discontinue installing the consumer version of Skype for all COB computers at this time.

Since we don’t like to take tools away without providing alternatives we have attached instructions for using Skype for Business and the web version of consumer Skype.  We hope both of these options will serve you well going forward and we’ll plan on removing all full consumer Skype installations from all COB computers at some point in the near future.

As always please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns about this or other topics.

Thanks,

Jeff Grabb, MS
