The College of Business has opportunities to study abroad for a year, a semester, or a summer at partner institutions in United Kingdom, France, Hungary, Mexico, Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, Spain, China, South Korea and Thailand. There are also short term faculty led opportunities to travel. To see the current list of COB sponsored opportunities, click here. Additional partnerships are always under development.
In addition, the Office of International Studies and Programs (OISP) at Illinois State University sponsors summer and semester programs to a variety of additional countries. Courses taken abroad count toward your degree, so in most cases, study abroad does not delay graduation.
Students should plan for an international program early in their studies. Most commonly, COB students do a semester study abroad during their junior year to get the benefit of taking business courses abroad or a summer program between their junior and senior years. All programs offer courses in English and/or the language of the country depending upon the specific campus of residency.
I want to study abroad, how do I get started?
1. Attend a First Steps Session. These sessions cover the basics of how to explore and apply to study abroad. We recommend you do this freshman or sophomore year to give yourself plenty of dreaming time as you explore the many options.
2. For specific questions about COB programs or more general study abroad information for Business majors/minors, contact Ms. Alex Ratcliff at email@example.com.
3. Contact your COB Advisor to determine how programs you are interested in specifically fit with your academic plan of study. Students are responsible to complete the Academic Planning Form for the transfer of credits earned abroad before they plan to travel.
4. For other questions, please contact the College of Business study abroad staff at COBStudyAbroad@ilstu.edu.
To explore program options go to Getting Started which is an overview of Study Abroad. Destinations lists programs offered by country. Each program page gives an overview of the prerequisites, academics, location, program dates, housing, and a link to the host university’s website. This website has the most up to date information about the program qualifications, course offerings, and budgets; as well as upcoming Study Abroad events, scholarships, and deadlines. There are also links to grade conversions and course articulations by country and school.
*College of Business Programs are departmentally directed. Students can take ALL Business classes and guarantee Illinois State University Business credit for courses taken abroad.
