Dr. Hulda G. Black joined the Department of Marketing at Illinois State in August of 2011. Dr. Black is currently an Associate Professor in Marketing, as well as a co-leader of the Integrated Marketing Communication Sequence.
She obtained her Ph.D. Marketing from the University of Kentucky in the Spring of 2011. Prior to pursuing her Ph.D., Dr. Black worked in the health club industry for four years. Black’s research interests include: Services Marketing, Customer Engagement Marketing, Healthcare Marketing, Sports Marketing, Faith-based Marketing and Consumer Well-being. Dr. Black has published articles in over ten different journals, including the Journal of Service Research, Journal of Services Marketing, The Services Industries Journal, and the International Journal of Sport Management.
Black’s teaching interests include Integrated Marketing Communication, Creative Strategy & Design, Sport Marketing and Digital Marketing.
Black, her husband, Kyle, and their two boys live in Bloomington. Outside of work and family, Dr. Black loves anything active. She has biked (e.g. 2-wheeled pedal bike) from coast-to-coast across the United States. In Fall 2017, Dr. Black was an Ironman Triathlon Finisher, which involved a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run, all in 12 ½ hours. She is also a former collegiate tennis player and 5-time marathon finisher.
