Mark Gibson is an Instructional Assistant Professor of Marketing. He has taught Business 100, Sports Marketing (MKTG 339), Business Ethics and Social Responsibility (MKTG 236), and Strategic Marketing (MKTG 338). His areas of interest include strategic marketing and creative development, sports marketing, integrated marketing campaign development, brand positioning and brand management.
He spent nearly 25 years at State Farm, the last 15 as an executive in the Marketing and Creative Services Departments. Throughout his State Farm career, he oversaw the company's strategic branding, media planning, integrated marketing communications, and creative development functions. He helped negotiate the company's deals with the NCAA, NBA, MLB, NFL, NASCAR, LPGA, over 90 colleges and universities, numerous personal services contracts with athletes and entertainers, and helped manage State Farm's roster of external agencies.
In 2008, he was recognized by Ad Age with the Marketing 50 Award for leading State Farm's multi-cultural efforts, and his team took home Best in Show Creative at the 2017 In-House Agency Forum Annual Awards, and was runner up for In-House Creative Team of the Year.
Mark holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism/Public Relations from Bradley University and a master's degree in Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Mark serves as Immediate Past Chairman of the In-House Agency Forum Board of Directors. Previously, he served on the boards of the Illinois Heart and Lung Foundation, the Ad Council, the Museum of Broadcast Communications and Radio Hall of Fame, and the Advertising Week Editorial Advisory panel. Mark and his wife Kathy, an ISU graduate, have two children, Emilee, a medical school student, and John, an undergraduate majoring in Sports Management.
