Business Week Mentor Program

Business Week Mentor Program

Business Week Mentor Program

Most Fortune 500 Companies have an established mentor program, including Google, Caterpillar, and General Electric (GE), to name a few. The Business Week Mentor Program helps students develop the professional skills necessary to succeed in their career path. Specifically, Business Week mentors serve as role models who:

  • Teach proper business professional attire, etiquette, interaction, and networking
  • Reinforce the importance of active participation in registered student organizations
  • Create dialog about courses, internships, and career preparation and essentials
  • Provide service-leadership opportunities
  • Highlight essential soft skills like building a resume and conducting mock interviews and more

Since its formation in 2011, the Mentor Program has increased in prestige and design. Mentors are selected based on proven academic success and extracurricular involvement and are dedicated to serving as a resource for their assigned mentee(s) and providing them with the best possible Business Week experience.

Mentor/Mentee pairs get acquainted with one another through their collaboration on the professional skills referenced above and by attending a pre-Business Week event designed and implemented by the Mentor Program Coordinators. During this event, mentor/mentee pairs will have the opportunity to network with other students participating in the program and attend a training session led by ISU alumni Eric Hoss ’87, MBA ’90, and Tim Pantaleone ’07. To conclude their participation in the program, they will attend Business Week events together and make use of the skills developed throughout their mentorship, followed by a Mentor Program Graduation at the end of the week.
