2014 Young Leader Award Winner - Marcie Stephan

Marcie Stephan

Assistant Vice President Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance

Marcie Stephan has made an impact early in her career with her involvement and leadership in various industry organizations. A former employer, Lexington Insurance Company, identified her as an Emerging Leader and she also participated in the Future Leaders Network within the AIG framework. She was chosen to chair the Volunteer Committee for AIG in Chicago and was an active mentor in the AIG program.

When Berkshire Hathaway was forming a team to initiate the Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance company, Marcie was one of the first individuals to be selected for the Chicago office. Even though it is relatively early in her career to be involved in a start-up operation, senior management knew she would be a winner.

Over the nine years since Marcie graduated from the Katie School of Insurance, she has made numerous trips to campus to speak with our students in classes and in Gamma Iota Sigma events. She also volunteered to moderate and speak on a panel at the NAPSLO Symposium in Chicago in the spring of 2014 which the Katie School hosted with the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation for 150 RMI students from around the country. Ms. Stephan is extremely loyal and actively networks with our younger alumni in the Chicago insurance community and mentors along the way.

Marcie excels in her commitment to community service. She is Vice President of the Associate Board of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) and co-chaired the Sponsorship Committee for the 2014 IICF Women in Insurance Regional Forum, exceeding the fundraising goal for the Forum by 81%. She is also on the IICF Volunteer Committee for the Week of Giving. Marcie is an active participate and team member in the Special Olympics Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby. She also volunteers where needed at her church whether it is cooking for the Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) program or helping to sell gift cards after mass. In the past she has helped coordinate fundraisers and events for Junior Achievement and The Children's Place Association.

Marcie has a deep passion for helping others and a great commitment to projects in the non-profit community. She is not just a member of a committee, but an active member with strong participation in volunteer activities
